ITALIAN PARALYMPIC TT CHAMPIONSHIP – Francavilla a Mare (CH)
Stefano Meroni and Piergiacomo Marcolina are the new Italian Time Trial champions, another
success of the T°RED Factory Racing Team Frigerio Viaggi, together with the fourth place for
Francavilla, May 26th 2018 – Stefano Meroni and Piergiacomo Marcolina confirm their preference for
the tests against time and close with a spectacular first place the time trial valid for the Italian Paralympic
Championship held in Francavilla a Mare.
A result that confirms the excellent physical shape of the athletes, supported for Marcolina also by the
results on the track and fixed gear (like his victory at the opening 100 laps in Portogruaro Velodrome) and
that motivates them further in the preparation for future commitments. A podium touched on many
occasions in previous races, characterized by technical problems or cancellations, a podium conquered
with an explosion of speed that takes on an even higher value because it brings with it the Italian Tricolore
jersey and confirms them Italian top couple, looking forward for the upcoming World Championships in
Maniago in August.
It is the first victory of the couple Meroni Marcolina, training and racing together since the beginning of the
season. It is the fifth Italian Paralympic title for Meroni, the first in this specialty. For Marcolina it is the
second Tricolore: the first one as an Elite racer together with Buttazzoni, Castegnaro and Bresciani, the
quartet that won the Italian team chase in 2014.
The track of the time trial, along the waterfront and on the central streets of Francavilla, for about 7 km
and completely flat, was covered three times by the athletes who finished the race in 27’44” at an average
speed of almost 44km/h. A particularly noteworthy result also taking into account the very technical
changes of direction and the wind, contrary for half way and never in favor because of the buildings along
the route. Twelve seconds ahead of seconds (Ameghini / Cecini) and almost two minutes on third place
(Bersini / Comi).
Excellent performance also for Claudio Campi, fourth in the C3 category. The Paralympic athlete, from
this season in force to the T°RED team, is facing with excellent results and placements also the Italian
and international calendar of fixed gear races. Among the latest activities, we point out the 258th out of
800 participants at the Rad Race in Berlin, the only Paralympic in the race and up again from the starting
position despite a crash along the route caused by another rider.
